Kwara community accuses former IG of abduction
The Oro Ago community in Ifelodun Local Government Area of Kwara State yesterday raised alarm over alleged clampdown on them on the orders of a former Inspector General of Police, IGP, leading the abduction of six of them to an unknown place for 12 days running.
At a press conference addressed by president of Oro Ago Development Union, ODU, Chief Richard Olushola, on behalf of the community in Ilorin, narrated their ordeals in the hands of Fulani/Bororo settlers who attacked, killed and maimed scores of their people in an unprovoked bloody clash on April 13, 2015.
The clash (earlier reported by National Mirror) was perpetrated by the Bororo settlers, who carried guns, machetes, and charmed staffs to the Oro Ago market on the fateful day in defiance of the monarch of the town, Oba Johnson Olanrewaju Dada, to the effect that no one should carry arms to the market place on market days.
Olushola said the Bororo herdsmen, when challenged by the community market guards/vigilante men, turned wild and instead of explaining or apologising, started inflicting machete cuts on the people after manhandling scores of them.
He said Oro Ago, through the Oba and head chiefs of 16 smaller towns making up the community, lodged complaints with the Police Area Command in Omu Aran, the Commissioner of Police in Ilorin as well as the state government in Ilorin, which reacted promptly by dispatching mobile policemen and soldiers to man the town till date.
