Kwara 2015: Saraki, Sha'aba, Rafiu Ibrahim, Atunwa, Kannike, others emerge winners

The Chairman, Senate Committee on Environment and Ecology, Dr. Bukola Saraki and a Senator representing Kwara North Senatorial District, Alhaji Sha’aba Lafiaji have re-elected.

The duo, who is members of the All Progressives Congress, defeated their main challengers who are of the Peoples Democratic Party in Saturday’s National Assembly election.

While Saraki, who represents Kwara Central Senatorial District, polled 83,639 to defeat the PDP’s candidate, Alhaji Abdulrahman Abdulrasaq, Sha’aba scored 60,385, while his main challenger, Engineer Yinusa Yahaya, got 26,138 votes.

Also, a member of the House of Representatives representing Offa/Oyun/ Ifelodun Federal Constituency, Hon. Rafiu Ibrahim polled 53,102 votes to emerge the Senator representing Kwara South on the platform of the APC.

His opponent from Offa, Architect Lola Asiru of the PDP, scored 37,496 to emerge second.

The Speaker, Kwara State House of Assembly defeated Alhaji Sherif Shagaya of the PDP with 37, 484 to 17, 584 votes to emerge the lawmaker –elect for Ilorin West/Asa Federal Constituency.

The former Minister of State for Health, Princess Funke Adedoyin also won the Ekiti/Isin/Irepodun/Oke Ero Federal Constituency seat with 25, 271 votes.

Also, the former Commissioner for Sports in Kwara State, Hon. Zakari Mohammed (Baruteen/Kaiama) and Chairman, House Committee on Water Resources, Hon. Aliyu Ahman Bahago Patigi (Edu/Moro/Patigi) were re-elected with 18,014 and 40210 votes respectively.

A member of the state’s House of Assembly, Hon. Tope Layoonu, also won the Offa/Oyun/Ifelodun Federal Constituency seat with 46,711 votes, while the former Commissioner for Works, Dr. Abubakar Amadu-Kannike, clichéd the Ilorin East/Ilorin South Federal Constituency seat with 28,294 votes.

Meanwhile, some prominent Kwara PDP members were last Thursday defeated in their polling units during the Saturday’s polls in the state.

One of the affected politicians, National Pilot can report was the Minister of National Planning, Dr. Abubakar Sulyman, who lost Ode-Opobiyi polling unit (005) in Agbaji quarters to Saraki.

At the unit, APC House of Representatives Candidate polled  APC: 307, PDP 50; Senate : APC 310, PDP 58; President: APC 321, PDP 46.

Also, the Kwara State Coordinator of President Goodluck Presidential Campaign, Dele Belgore, lost in his Ajanaku polling unit, to the APC.

The election result of the unit revealed that APC candidate scored 219, PDP 86; Senate: APC 223, PDP 89; President: APC246, PDP,77.

The  state’s deputy governorship candidate of PDP, Alhaji Yinka Aluko, Hajia Muinat Shagaya, were said to have suffered the same fate, as they were reportedly defeated with wide margin in their voting centres in Ode-Ikokoro, Omoda and Popo Igbona voting centres respectively.  

The Kwara State Governor, Alhaji Abdulfatah Ahmed, however, delivered Share polling unit (008 pu) to the APC  as the party scored 358 for the presidential election against PDP’s 28 votes.

Also, APC had 354 votes against PDP’s 32 for the Senatorial election; and Reps 350, PDP 31.

Other chieftains of APC, Alhaji Abubakar Baraje, former Minister of Sports, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Isiaka Ishola Gold, Commissioner for Finance, Alhaji Ademola Banu, among others delivered their various polling units to the party during the Saturday’s elections
