The vaccinators handling meningitis immunisation in Baruten Local Government Area of Kwara on Sunday said they were having difficulty moving around the communities in the Nigeria-Benin Republic border.

Mr Ibrahim Shuaib, the Technical Officer for the programme in the local government, made the disclosure to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Kosubosu while speaking on the progress of the exercise.

Shuaib, who described the turnout of residents in the border communities as encouraging, however, noted that they were faced with logistics constraints in some areas.

"While we appreciate the support of both the state and the local governments, there is also a need for more financial support to make the exercise a huge success.

"Baruten is large, so, we are faced with a mobility challenge," he said.

The health officer told NAN that though the programme was meant for people between the ages of one and 29, people above the age range also showed interest in the immunisation.

He applauded the understanding and conduct of the people, saying the teams had never experienced any case of rejection as was the case in some previous immunisation programmes. (NAN)
