Kwara Muslims Celebrate Hijrah
As Muslims across the world celebrate Hijrah to mark the beginning of a new Islamic calendar year, thousands of Muslims have converged on llorin, Kwara state for the celebration of 1436Islamic calendar.
Monarchs, Islamic scholars, Muslim organisations and school children participated in the programme which commenced with match past and recitations from glorious Quran.
The state governor, Abdulfatah Ahmed urged the citizens to continue to live in peace with one another, to attain meaningful development.
"I urge you all to desist from acts that could hinder the progress of this state... There is need for Muslims to continue to live in peace and always be their brother's keeper," Governor Ahmed advised.
Sustain Islamic tenets
The Governor congratulated Muslims in Kwara state for the commencement of the new Islamic calendar and urged them to sustain Islamic tenets.
He was represented by his Special Assistant on Religious Matters, Abdulsalam Bello.
The Emir of llorin, lbrahim Sulu-Gambari expressed happiness over the peaceful co-existence among Christians and Muslims in the state and urged them to maintain the tempo.
Proper dialogue
The monarch called for proper dialogue between government and religious leaders on the return of mission schools in the state.
The event was attended by Muslim organisations from all the 16 local government areas in the state.
