Why PDP'll suffer defeat in 2015 - Moronfoye... Says KWSG remains focused

Date: 2014-09-30

A verbal war over 2015 general elections was re-enacted in Ilorin yesterday with the Kwara State Government warning the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) not to be disillusioned if it lost the much touted governorship poll in the state.

Even with the threats by some stakeholders in the state PDP that it would reclaim the state, the government said it has been watching with keen interest certain undoing currently playing out that would spell doom for the party and be of advantage to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The state is now being ruled by the APC after the defection of Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed, his predecessor, Senator Bukola Saraki and their followers from the PDP to the APC.

In an exclusive interview with The Herald, the state Commissioner for Information and Communications, Prince 'Tunji Moronfoye, listed reasons why the PDP would suffer defeat in the forthcoming governorship election to include non-existent structure, leadership tussle and cleavages that exist in the party across the three senatorial districts of the state.

Although, the state Youth Leader of the PDP, Barrister Segun Olawoyin, had claimed that his party has about 65 to 70 voting population on its side, which make the party to be confident of victory in the poll. Moronfoye dismissed the projection, saying it was a mere thought that only exists in imagination. He added that since freedom of speech is enshrined in the nation's constitution, every politically minded person irrespective of political leanings, has every right to express his opinion as long as it is not libelous.

The commissioner told the Herald correspondent that the state PDP is in total disarray and it would be a dull dream for the party to overrun the government being administered by the APC.

He said the credibility of the present administration-s performance is unmatchable, explaining that this has also been attested to by Kwarans both home and in the diaspora.

He said the state government would be focused in the delivery of democratic dividends to the people of the state.

Moronfoye said, "There is freedom of speech for everyone in democracy, and this is enshrined in the constitution devoid of the political party you belong to. What you imagined is different from reality. And we must say that whatever is coming from PDP as a threat, is mere fantasy that exists in imagination. "For crying out loud, PDP is in total disarray; structure is non-existent and so how do you intend to win an election in such situation. When you go to the three senatorial districts, you have various leaders of the party who have calved a niche for themselves. We have been watching keenly.

"As for us in government, APC is intact. Despite the fact that our monthly allocation from the federation account has been dwindled, we have not reneged in our obligations to the people of the state. With the financial crisis, we are still paying workers salary promptly and we have remained consistent on this. "They (PDP) know that what they are imagined about 2015 is impossible here. APC government is doing exceptionally well. Anybody can say anything", he said.
