We constructed 800 kilometres of roads in 3 years - Kwara govt.

Date: 2014-09-20

The Kwara Government says it constructed over 800 kilometres of roads within the last three years.

The Commissioner for Works and Transport, Dr Abubakar Kannike, stated this on Friday in Ilorin while speaking with newsmen.

The figure, he said, represents 75 per cent of the set target for completion of the road projects in the state.

The commissioner also said that all inherited road projects had been completed, adding that more would be initiated in spite of dearth of funds.

Kannike claimed that the state was being owed N3 billion for its intervention on federal roads, stressing that it s would not reduce the rate of infrastructural development.

He also said the Oja-Tuntun, Share-Oke Ode, Offa-Ira and Erinle-Ilemona road projects remained on the priority list of government.

The commissioner, who commended the efforts of agencies in the ministry, noted that the services of the State Fire Service were being extended to Offa, Bode Saadu and Omu-Aran.

Kannike restated government's commitment to its " Operation No Pot-hole Policy" aimed at ensuring free vehicular movement. (NAN)
