New Kwara CP calls for residents support
The newly posted Commissioner of Police, Kwara State Command, Mr. Salihu Garba, on Monday called for collaborative efforts of all stakeholders to address insecurity.
He stated that it was imperative for Nigerian to assist security agencies with quality information so as to curb insurgency and prevent crimes in the country.
In his maiden media briefing in llorin, he pledged the commitment of the command to sustain and to improve the peace and harmony that exist in Kwara State.
He warned against thuggery, saying it was akin to terrorism. He stated that the police command would not tolerate thuggery.
He also warned against defacing of posters or pulling down political billboards in the state, saying the command would not allow anybody fomenting trouble or causing breach of public peace in the state.
The CP said the command would maintain cordial relationship with and remain open for the public to proffer quality information that would assist in prevention and fighting of crime in the state.
He commended journalists for their efforts geared towards nation building and ensuring peace in the society and stability in the polity.
Garba said, "Kwara cannot move forward if there is no peace and stability in the state. We need that peace. We are all aware of the present trend: the security challenges in Nigeria as a whole.
"My appeal is that Kwarans should be encouraged to see and say particularly with this terrorists' incursion. If you do not see and say, definitely, we can be surprised. So encourage Kwarans to see and say without fear of being exposed.
"I have started hearing about complaints about people tearing political posters. Posters can be there, you can see a poster and bypass it. Poster is not a human being. So Kwarans should not be that mischievous. Tearing posters will not stop who will win an election.
"But it can likely cause a breach of peace, because people have spent their money to produce the posters.
"The last thing we will tolerate in Kwara State Police is thuggery which I regard as an act of terrorism. We have a zero tolerance to thuggery."
