Kwara to adopt strictness in employing teachers

Date: 2014-08-18

The Kwara State government has vowed to put an end to anomaly in the recruitment of teaching staff of primary and secondary schools across the state with a view of addressing the challenges of incompetence plaguing the system.

Speaking with The Herald shortly after inspecting a screening exercise conducted for prospective head masters,  headmistresses, the Director, administration and human resources of the Kwara State Universal Basic Education Board (KWSUBEB), Mrs Bolatito Omokeye, said the exercise will continue to eradicate the era of “godfatherism” in the appointment of head of schools.

Mrs Omokeye, who described the exercise as first of its kind, stated that qualifications required for the exercise include NCE certificate, Degree, coupled with minimum of 15 years of experience in the service.

The director said the exercise which will be conducted annually was informed by the need to create job opportunities for teeming unemployed youths as well as restoring the image of public schools in the state.

She commended the efforts of the present administration aimed at sanitizing and offer a new shape to public schools across the state.

However, some participants at the screening applauded the state government for organizing the exercise.

Mrs Balikis Ajikobi, an Assistant Headmistress, Eruda LGEA Primary Schools expressed satisfaction with the new innovation adopted in the exercise, saying the exercise which involved all the sixteen local governments in the state, was geared towards motivating civil servants to be dedicated in their duty.
