Kwara state governor advocates spirit of brotherhood at Ramadan
Governor Ahmed made the call on Thursday at the eight Lai Muhammad Ramadan Lecture held at Oro in Irepodun Local Government Area of Kwara State North central Nigeria.
He said Muslims must be seen as givers to the needy to ensure social security.
The governor also advised Muslims to imbibe the application of Zakat (charity) with a view to redistributing wealth and reducing poverty in the society.
Governor Ahmed who admitted that sovereignty and power belong to Allah advised those in positions of authority to positively touch the lives of the people in the society.
In his remarks, the organiser of the Lecture and National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Alhaji Lai Muhammad advocated tolerance and peaceful co-existence among Nigerians to further cement the nation's unity.
Alhaji Muhammad who recalled the commencement of the annual lecture eight years ago urged Muslims to live according to the dictates of the religion.
In his sermon, the Chief Imam of Offa, Sheikh Muideen Salman Hussein asked Nigerian leaders to imbibe the spirit of philanthropy to reduce poverty and promote social security in the country.
Sheikh Hussein also advised Nigerian leaders to always remember their past to serve as a guide for their social interactions.
The Chief Imam of Offa emphasized the need for wealthy Muslims and those in positions of authority to use their resources to uplift the poor in the society.
He also called for contentment among Nigerians to avoid unnecessary rivalry as a way of promoting peaceful co-existence.
