Kwara varsity created 3000 small coys - VC
Kwara State University has created over 3000 companies and businesses which have engaged students and ex-students of the university, the institution Vice-Chancellor has disclosed.
The idea according to the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Abdulrasheed Na'Allah, is to equip the students with the requisite entrepreneurial knacks to become job creators and not job seekers.
Among the companies created by the institution is Ranapower, a solar power energy manufacturing company in partnership with three major energy organisations from the USA and China.
Briefing newsmen in Ilorin yesterday on the activities marking the second convocation ceremonies of the university, the VC disclosed that the institution had established campus travels and tours which would arrange travels around the world for travellers and tourists.
Apart from inculcating the entrepreneurship spirit on the students, the innovations, the VC added, were also intended to generate revenue for the university, saying, "This state is very poor. We are number 34 on the revenue ladder in terms of the subvention from federal government and so we are looking at different opportunities".
Na'Allah added that the university had also introduced "farm to work" for all students irrespective of their course of study to learn farming and see it as a source of empowerment and employment after graduation.
"So for us at KWASU, no student has business roaming the streets after graduation. They are equipped to hit the ground running", he said.
