I'll unite all groups in Kwara PDP - Oyedepo

Date: 2014-05-13

Chief Iyiola Oyedepo, Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party in Kwara, has vowed to unite all groups within the party to ensure its success in 2015 general elections.

Oyedepo said this in Ilorin on Saturday when he received members of the late Governor Mohammed Lawal’s group led by his eldest son, Alhaji Akeem Lawal.

He promised all PDP members in the state that he would not align with any group within the party, but would bring all of them together to achieve success.

“I will foster unity of purpose in order to ensuring victory for the party in 2015 polls,” Oyedepo said.

He counseled Lawal to do everything within his powers to sustain his father’s legacies of service to humanity.

The News Agency of Nigeria reports that Oyedepo served as Chief Whip in the State House of Assembly during Gov. Lawal’s administration between 1999 and 2003.

According to Oyedepo, late Lawal’s administration turned around the social and economic conditions of the people.

“As a major participant in that government, I can confirm that all the projects and programmes embarked upon by Lawal’s administration have positive impacts on Kwarans.

“It is the light of this that I admonished you to build up the legacies of your late father with a view to sustaining them,’’ Oyedepo said.

According to the chairman, a decade after the demise of the former governor, people are still endeared to him.

“This is a good testimony of what he had contributed to their lives,” he added.

Earlier, Lawal had urged the newly elected executives to strengthen the PDP structures in the state with a view to working towards the unity of the party.

“Our coming here today is to congratulate you on your victory at the polls. Besides, we want to advise you not to align with any individual or group within our party.

“Your election into office is divinely arranged by God. Therefore, work assiduously towards success of PDP in next year’s elections,” Lawal said.

He assured Oyedepo that his group would give him and his executives all the necessary support to make PDP succeed at the polls.

On the entourage were former state Chairman of the All Nigeria Peoples Party, Alhaji Abiodun Usman and Lawal’s erstwhile Chief of Staff, Alhaji Suleiman Olowojare.
