Kwara to establish HIV/AIDS treatment centre.

Date: 2014-03-28

The Kwara Government is to establish a multi-million naira HIV/AIDs treatment centre to curtail the spread of the deadly disease in the state.

The Commissioner for Information and Communication, Mr Tunji Moronfoye, stated this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria on Thursday in Ilorin.

According to him, the aim of the project is to further reduce the 3.3 per cent HIV/AIDS prevalence rate in the state.

The commissioner added that work would commence at the site immediately Gov. AbdulFatah Ahmed signed the bill for its establishment into law.

Moronfoye said fund for the project was included in the 2014 budget, adding that it would be completed before the end of the year.

According to him, the planned centre is part of efforts at ensuring access to comprehensive health care and sustaining the low HIV/AIDS cases in the state

The commissioner restated the state government’s commitment to refurbishing, equipping and constructing additional health centres in the state to provide quality health care service for the citizenry.

Moronfoye said the establishment of the centre would not affect the state’s Clinic on Wheels programme, an initiative of the governor’s wife, Mrs Omolewa Ahmed.

Wheel on Wheel is a pilot project that is being implemented by NYSC members to provided health care services in communities.

On agricultural development, Moronfoye said that about N217m had been earmarked for loans to farmers to boost food production in the state.
