The police in Kwara yesterday said it had arrested 40 suspects in connection with Wednesday's fracas in Ilorin where a policeman reportedly died after a disagreement over the death of a dog.

The squabble over the death of a hunter's dog between some residents of Abayawo and Dada community in Ilorin metropolis claimed the life the police corporal identified as Agboola Joakim of the counter-terrorism unit.

Trouble started early Wednesday when hunters at Dada reportedly mobilized to avenge the killing of the dog which was hit by a car belonging to an Abayawo resident. Briefing newsmen yesterday, the state Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Okasanmi Ajayi, disclosed that 40 suspects had been arrested, adding that the suspects would however be screened to identify the real culprits. 

He refuted reports that the policeman was mistakenly shot by one of his colleagues.
