Date: 2013-11-05

The Governor of Kwara State, Dr. Abdulfattah Ahmed, and the Supervising Minister for Education, Mr. Nyesom Wike, have commended the University of Ilorin for what they called "the superb organisation" of its just concluded 29th Convocation Ceremonies.

The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. AbdulGaniyu Ambali, revealed this last Tuesday (October 29, 2013) while addressing members of the Ceremonials Committee who were saddled with the responsibility of organising the University's convocation ceremonies.

Prof. Ambali disclosed that the feelers he had received from the Kwara State Government House and the Federal Ministry of Education have been very positive as the Governor and the Minister have been full of praises for the University for organising an excellent convocation ceremony

The Vice-Chancellor said that based on his positive impression about the organisation of the convocation ceremonies, the Minister openly made a confession in Abuja that the University of Ilorin was different in all respects from the others.

Prof. Ambali pointed out that he had also received commendations from a lot of dignitaries who visited the University during the convocation, adding that "the Governor's team also congratulated us on the successful organisation of the 29th Convocation Ceremonies."

"The Minister was full of praises for the University of Ilorin for the conduct of the ceremony", the Vice-Chancellor disclosed, stressing that "when he said that, the praise goes to all of us but specifically to the Ceremonials Committee members."

Commending members of the Ceremonials Committee, Prof. Ambali said, "Thank you for your sacrifices. Your individual contributions gave us the success. The Visitor was full of praise. The credit must go to you because you are the brains behind the success. The Governor has also congratulated you through me. We are better by far because of you all. Everyone acknowledged that we are different."

The Vice-Chancellor noted that "the University of Ilorin is now a model University for others to follow. I thank you most sincerely for making this a reality. We can do better and we are now under pressure to do even better. We want to remain a reference point for excellence. I encourage you to start preparations for the next convocation immediately. We are ready to learn from the best in the world and domesticate their success. I thank you all and no words can express how happy I am."

Prof. Ambali charged the Committee and all other stakeholders to make the greatness of the University their target, especially with the new Federal Government's mandate to the University  to champion the revival of higher education in the country, stressing that "the rest of the world is watching and we must all be up to the task."

In his remarks, the Chairman of the Ceremonials Committee, Prof. J. O Atteh, also thanked members of the Committee for the successful convocation.

Prof. Atteh thanked the Vice-Chancellor for making out time not only to attend the Committee's post-convocation meeting but also to think it worthy to appreciate members' contribution to the success of the convocation ceremony.

The Committee Chairman stressed that commendations had not only come from within the University but also from outside the University community, explaining that the efficient organisation of the convocation had been specially commended by the Convocation Lecturer, Ambassador Walter C. Carrington and journalists, especially those from Abuja, who covered the ceremonies.
