OMU begs FG, ASUU to resolve dispute

Date: 2013-10-13

The Organization of Muslim Unity (OMU), Ilorin branch, has called on Federal Government and the Association of Staff Union of University (ASUU) to sheath their sword and toe the line of dialogue so as to put an end to the lingering strike action.

The OMU made the call in a communique issued at the end of its 40th year anniversary signed by its Secretary, Hadi Moshood, and made available to The Herald on Sunday.

In the communique, OMU noted that the ear her the duo resolve the impasse, the better for the country’s educational sector.

“The organization observed with dismay the prolonged face off between ASSU/Federal Government will continue to have negative impact on the students as well as the parents. We therefore call on both sides to see reason and to toe the line of dialogue so as to resolve the impasse amicably in the best interest of the national”, the communique read in part.

The communique also condemned in strong term the recent killings of innocent students in the northern part of the country by the people suspected to be members of Boko haram sect.

“This singular act is barbaric, malicious, callous, and ungodly. We thus, call on the Federal Government to overhaul the country’s security system and beef up security at the country’s boarder to curb the infiltration of unscrupulous elements”, the OMU stated.

The communique also charged Nigerian Muslims to use the forthcoming Ediel-Kabir festival to reflect on the nation’s problem by praying so as to overcome the Nigerian security challenges and other vices.

Therefore OMU wished all Muslims in the country a very blissful Sallah celebration in advance, and equally urged them to use the season to pray for the save return of all Muslim pilgrims who are performing Hajj exercise in the holy land.

The organization commended the Kwara State Government under the leadership of Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed for renovating five general hospitals across the state and appealed to the governor to equip them with state of the art equipment and qualitative staff so as to justify the huge amount spent on the project.
