Woman electrocuted as high tension wire falls in Ilorin
A woman in her mid-thirties lost her life when a high tension wire fell on a row of shops opposite Garin-Alimi Hospital, Ilorin at about noon on Tuesday.
Tragedy struck when as commercial activities were going on in shops occupying a former AP filling station, the high tension wire fell, making people scamper for safety.
According to an eyewitness, the woman, popularly called Iya Okiki was sitting with her husband when the incident happened. She was said to have rushed inside the shop as people scampered for safety where she got electrocuted.
When she was later brought out of the shop, efforts to revive her proved abortive. She was thereafter rushed to the Garin-Alimi Hospital where she was pronounced dead.
A Medical Doctor at the hospital, Dr Ibrahim Adedo who confirmed the incident, said she was dead on arrival.
According to another trader in the area, the deceased who sells women and children materials just moved into the container shop not long ago. She was also reported to have lost her child few months ago.
Although, some shop owners who have containers located under high tension wire have started removing them for fear of further accidents and in obedience to government orders, many residential buildings and shops still remain under the wires.
