Kwara IGR hits N800m monthly

Kwara State Government has said that it is on course with its revenue generation drive to rake in at least N1biliion monthly before the end of this year.

Already, the government said its monthly Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) has hit N800 million monthly.

The state Commissioner for Finance, Alhaji Demola Banu, stated this at the weekend during a meeting with officials of the state Board of Internal Revenue (BIR) in Ilorin.

He said government was able to achieve the feat Because it has succeeded in blocking some loopholes through which monies were lost.

To this end, the commissioner said the government would not accept any attempt by anyone to evade tax in the state, stressing that all tax rules must be strictly adhered to.

Banu said it was compulsory for people to pay their tax to enable government to embark on more developmental projects.

He said the state was number 33rd on the federal location table but was able to carry out developmental Program with the aid of its IGR.

The commissioner praised the administration of Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed for its prudent management of resources.

Banu, however challenged staffers of 8IR to sustain their tempo on the IGR in order to achieved the set target of N1billion by the: end of year.

In his remarks, Permanent Secretary Hon, Alh. Mudashir Oladapo, said that the hoard menber would not abuse the confidence reposed in them.

Meanwhile, the State Head of Service, Alhaji Dabarako Mohammed, has said N1billion would soon be disbursed to Civil Servants in the state for car and Housing loans.

Mohammed stated that very soon, agreement would be real. need with the bank (s) that agreed to take 20 percent interest on the loan.

The Head of Service, who stated this while featuring on a Radio Kwara interactive programmed ''The Platform", monitored in Ilorin last Thursday, said the loan would be distributed to civil servants based on their grade levels.

He said the loan ranging from N1 million, N800, 000 to N600, 000 would be given to state civil servants, and clarified that the loan is not compulsory for any Civil Servant.

Mohammed, who reacted to the agitations over the N335million car loans approved for all political office holders in the state, cautioned the civil servants against
comparing themselves with politicians.

He said political office holders have tenure, while civil servants have 35 years in the service, and as well entitled to pensions and gratuities on retirement.

On the salary increase, the state Head of Service said the state government is not against increment in the salary of civil servants.

He noted that the allocation of the State from Federal Account had not increased, pointing. Out that it was not advisable to increase salary based on the excess crude fund, which is temporary.

Mohammed advised workers to demand for salary increment objectively, stressing that necessary incentives had been provided to ensure effective and efficient civil service.

He noted that a committee had been put in place by the government to cater for the educational development of the Almajiris, to reduce street begging.

On hawking in government offices, he said necessary measures had been put in place to check the practice.

Mohammed remarked that a committee to look into ways of solving the delay in payment of salaries of Parastartals and tertiary institutions in the state had been set up by the state government.

He said the government was looking into the possibility of taking full biometric data of civil servants to know the exact number of those in the main stream and teaching service.

The head of service noted that the issue of salary increment would be done objectively while the promotion of teachers in both Primary and Secondary Schools was being looked into.

He stated that the allocation from the federal government had not been reviewed as being rumored that the excess crude provided an increase in the allocation.

Dabarako pointed out that the state was the sixth to implement the new minimum wage starting with the civil service before the issue of those of the Teachers, Health, Ministry, Judiciary and Parastatals came up.

He stated that the annual leave bonus had been spread on monthly salaries of all civil servants in the state.

He advised civil servants not to be involved in partisan politics, noting that anyone who desired to partake in such should resign three months to the time in order to enjoy his gratuity.

The head of service added that N200 million was being released monthly as gratuity to pensioners in the state, which he said is being paid on first come, first serve basis.

On the asset declaration form, he said about 11 people that refused to return them were held liable and called on all civil servants to take the issue of asset declaration seriously
