Mammoth crowd welcomes Buhari in Ilorin, Bauchi

Date: 2015-02-01

THE presidential candidate of All Progressives Congress (APC), General Muhammadu Buhari, has said that economic and financial wastages in government have stalled development and progress of the country, maintaining that he will stop these so as to better the economy.

Speaking at the APC presidential campaign rally in Ilorin, Kwara State, on Saturday, General Buhari said his administration would block all financial wastages and plough back proceeds derived therefrom for educational, infrastructural and economic development of the country.

The APC presidential candidate, who said his government would frontally address corruption and insecurity, added that he had identified agriculture and mining sectors as avenues to provide employment opportunities for Nigeria youths.

“About 60 per cent of Nigeria youths are unemployed whether they have finished school or not. The only way to ameliorate this unemployment is to go back to farming and mining where we can absorb a lot of able-bodied youths, while in-depth study and plans are being made for the economy, to build infrastructure especially power, roads and rail transportation.

“And with whatever we realise from savings from wealth, we make sure schools are built, equipment provided and qualified teachers provided,” he said.

General Buhari, on arrival at Ilorin international airport about 1:00 p.m., paid homage to Emir of Ilorin, Alhaji Ibrahim Zulu Gambari, in his palace, amidst large crowd which followed his convoy to the palace.

He also said that his government would cooperate with local governments in the country to provide scholarship to talented children, “who don’t have opportunity to go to schools; whose parents cannot afford to send to schools”

Also speaking, the Emir of Ilorin, Alhaji Ibrahim Sulu Gambari, described General Buhari as a man of honour and justice. He said the crowd that besieged him on his arrival from Ilorin airport to the emir’s palace had showed that he was accepted by the people.

The emir also prayed for Buhari and his team for Allah’s guidance and protection.

‘Attacks on Buhari wicked, disparaging’

Meanwhile, a chieftain of APC and political leader of Itsekiri nation in Delta State, Dr Alex Ideh, has described the avalanche of vitriolic attacks on General Buhari by the PDP and its supporters as entirely wicked, misleading and disparaging.

Ideh, who was the secretary to the APC Convention Committee that produced Buhari as presidential candidate, said in a statement on Saturday that such “misguided information” might mislead younger generation of voters. He tasked the PDP and its followers to regard the Abuja Peace Accord by “refraining from such callous and disparaging verbal attacks.”
