Date: 2011-05-31

KWARA State government has disbursed millions of naira to over 2,000 staff of the Kwara State Waste Management Company from their contributory savings scheme.

The outgoing deputy governor of the state, Chief Joel Ogundeji, who distributed the money to the beneficiaries said that the scheme was principally to better the lots of the hard working operatives of the State Waste Management Programme.

He added that the lofty and well-intended idea was to ensure that the operatives have access to soft loans to empower them so that they can set up petty businesses such as, sales of provisions, soft drinks, foodstuff, tailoring materials and to also meet up with social commitments such as child’s education or home management and other things.

The out gone deputy governor opined that it was in the realisation of the above that the state government approved a monthly contribution in the sum of N400.00 on behalf of the operatives to be shared between the state government and the management of Ola’Kleen Nigerian Limited as means of empowering them during and after their services to the state.

Also speaking, the out going Commissioner for Environment and Forestry, Alhaji Adamu Googe Suleiman, commended the state government for their vision and ingenuity to have come up with such a wonderful idea as the Contributory Savings Scheme for the operatives.

He said that the scheme would go a very long way in assuaging the financial stress of the operatives and further boost their petty trades.
