KWSG Disburses N85M to 2,922 FADAMA Farmers

Date: 2013-08-08

No fewer than 2,922 farmers as well as 22 Fadama Community Associations (FCAs) and 264 Fadama User Groups (FUGs) have benefitted from the third phase of Fadama project in Kwara State.

The beneficiaries, drawn from the 16 local government areas of the state, were presented with the cheque of N85 million by the state Commissioner for Agriculture and Natural Resources, Mr. Bode Olayemi, to execute their demand driven sub-projects.

The state Fadama Project Coordinator, Malam Usman Akanbi, explained that the Fadama 111 project had successfully delivered on its mandate, disclosing that from 2009 to 2013, the sum of N276.3 million had been disbursed to 90 FCAs and over 846 FUGs.

He added that the World-Bank sponsored projects had recorded successes in the provision of infrastructural facilities to the benefitting communities as well as in the provision of inputs and capacity building training for farmers.

"These services were designed to enable the Fadama users to overcome constraints to profitable Fadama enterprises with the overall objective of ensuring productivity enhancing techniques and adopting best marketing practices," he said.
