'No crisis in Kwara United' - Comm. for Youth & Sports

Date: 2013-08-06

Kwara State Commissioner for Youth and Sports Ramat Adesina Abaya has debunked media reports alleging that all is not well in Kwara United FC's management.

The Commissioner denied the claim that there was a power tussle among various groups in the club in the quest for the control of the Afonja Warriors' finances.

Abaya told SportingLife that the Board of the club and the Ministry of Youth and Sports which he supervises are working in unison to take Kwara United to the expected heights this season.

He said the Kwara State Government has ensured the prompt payment of the players' and coaches' salaries and match bonuses. Two new buses to ease their movement has also been provided, he said.

Abaya also indicated that plans were underway to offset 50 per cent of the players' signing-on fees for the season and that the players, coaches and the board along with his ministry are on the same page in the interest of the club.

"I am telling you authoritatively that we don't have any crisis in Kwara United," Abaya began. "Everything is going on smoothly."

"The salaries of the players and other staff are being paid when due. The government has already paid all the match bonuses of the players and officials and two buses have just been bought for them. One, a 30-seater for the players and another, an 18-seater for the officials.

"As far as the Honourable Commissioner for Youth and Sports in Kwara State is concerned, there is no crisis in Kwara United because everything is being done to ensure that the club, which is the baby of the state, is well taken care of to achieve set objectives.

"I also need to add that very soon the 50 per cent of the players' signing-on fees will be paid. We are not owing them any dime as I speak with you."

Commenting on the unfavourable media reports, she said: "I don't know where they got their story from. When they said that we have so many committees trying to hijack the day-to-day running of the club, this is a lie and very far from the truth.

"If they need any information about matters that they are not clear about within my ministry, they can come straight to my office to get accurate information and not be spreading falsehood and misinforming the public.

"It is better you hear from the person concerned. It is unfair to base your judgement on what the outsiders say. The players and officials of Kwara United have not complained to anybody about their welfare or ill treatment.

"It is crystal clear that when players and officials are not having the best of welfare treatment, they are always the first to voice their misgivings. They don't normally take it easy."

She continued: "Kwara United is the baby of the state and it is the joy of every indigene of the state to see to it that the club flourishes.

"The club has improved drastically this season as we are currently placed 5th. If it was the old order, are we going to be near this position?

"If we want to move the club forward, definitely we must avoid certain things to streamline things. The issue of crisis does not appear at all."

"The board is in charge of the club and the members of this board who are only there on a part time basis as their letters of appointment indicate, take instructions from the Ministry of Youth and Sports.

"This is because Kwara United is a parastatal under the Ministry of Youth and Sports," Abaya concluded.

Kwara United are 6th on the Glo Nigeria Proffessional Football League log with 35 points from 23 games.
