A Professor of Performing Arts, Akanbi Nasiru of the Department of Performing Arts, University of Ilorin, has advocated for the review of existing university programmes in the theatre and performing arts in order to meet the challenges that may await production.

Professor Nasiru, who made the call at the One hundred and Thirty-fifth Inaugural lecture of the institution, titled "The future has long arrived: New vistals of the role of theatre in a developing nation", noted that it is pertinent to expand school curriculum in order to expose students to the use of computers, video cameras, desktop editing among others.

According to him, creative writing should be encouraged and students who have the flair should be encouraged to write script for radio and television.

He stressed that students must be challenged to work in term of practical with relevant sector rather than being classroom-bound discussion.

The professor urged the theatre group to carry out research work in conjunction with medicine, sociology and education in order to address issues of public concern.
