Prof. AbdulGaniyu Ambali, the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ilorin (UNILORIN), on Monday urged the Federal Government to make agriculture the main stay of the Nigerian economy.

Ambali made the call while receiving the National Executive Council of the Farm Management Association of Nigeria (FAMAN) in his office, in Ilorin.

The vice chancellor recalled that agriculture used to be the main stay of the economy before the discovery of oil.

He advised that the nation must go back to agriculture if the country was to be the food basket of the continent, and also provide food for its people.

The don said that the institution was committed to agriculture, and pledged to partner with internal and external organisations like FAMAN.

Ambali commended the association for having made the university the venue of its forthcoming 27th Conference.

Earlier, Prof. Dicta Ogisi, the National President of FAMAN, lauded the university authorities for agreeing to host the Association’s 27th Conference.

She also commended the institution for operating a people-oriented and developmental administration.

Ogisi expressed satisfaction with the facilities on ground in the institution.
