Ahmed Sees Peace, National Security as Panacea for Sustainable Growth
The Kwara State Governor, Dr Abdulfatah Ahmed has emphasized that peace and national security remain the only panacea for sustainable growth and development in the country.
Speaking in his office when the General Officer Commanding, 2 Division of the Nigerian Army, Major General Ahmed Tijani Jubril paid him a courtesy visit, the governor said Nigeria was facing an unusual security challenges and called on Nigerians to put sentiments apart to ensure a sustainable peace and unity of the country.
“It is the proper guarantee of lives and property that will ensure sustainable growth and development in the society. No matter how much resources that are available, once the concept of peace is not available, every other thing will be in shambles; hence we must jealously guide our peaceful environment,” he advised.
Governor Ahmed who had earlier called on the Nigeria Army to deploy its officers and men along the Kwara State-Benin Republic border and other border lines to assist other security agents in the prevention of influx of illegal immigrants into the State, commended the Nigerian Army for its role in the Mali crisis which he described as a reflection of Nigeria’s leadership role in the stability of the Continent.
While commending the 22 Brigade of the Nigerian Army Sobi for its prompt response to quelling the recent communal crisis between Offa and Erin-Ile communities, Dr. Ahmed assured the Army of his administration’s support within its limited resources.
The General Officer Commanding, 2 Division of the Nigerian Army, Major General Ahmed Tijani Jibril, in his remarks said the Nigerian Army remained committed to the strengthening of democracy in Nigeria by subordinating itself to civil authority.
“Subordination to civil authority is the hallmark of military responsibility and the commitment of the military to the defence of the unity of this country is sacrosanct", he said.
The GOC commended what he called the excellent relationship between the people of Kwara State and the Nigeria Army.
