Kwara NSCDC Holds Two-Day Investigation and Custody Management Workshop in Ilorin
The Kwara State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has organized a two-day capacity-building workshop aimed at strengthening officers' investigative competence, operational professionalism, and effective custody management.
Organized by the Intelligence and Investigation Department, the workshop themed "Enhancing Professionalism Through Standard Investigation Procedures and Effective Custody Management in Nigeria: Principles, Processes and Best Practices" commenced on Wednesday at the Ade Abolurin Hall, NSCDC State Headquarters, Ilorin, concluding on Thursday, November 5, 2026.
Delivering the opening address, State Commandant CC Abbas Ndah Mohammed, represented by Deputy State Commandant DCC Ayelabowo Isaac Olusegun, emphasized the necessity of thorough investigations, proper evidence handling, and strict adherence to established legal procedures.
He charged personnel to uphold high standards of professionalism, discipline, and integrity while ensuring that the constitutional rights of suspects and detainees are protected.
Commandant Mohammed noted that conducting another capacity-building program barely three months after a similar exercise underscores his commitment to continuous training as a key driver of operational efficiency and service delivery.
Presenting a paper on standard investigation procedures, retired Assistant Commandant General (ACG) Ayinla T. Olowo shared practical insights into investigative methods, emphasizing procedural discipline, proper documentation, and evidence preservation.
In her session, Mrs Adedoyin Ojukaiye, Assistant Director in the Department of Public Prosecution, Kwara State Ministry of Justice, examined the legal admissibility of evidence, standards of proof, and the duties of investigating officers within the criminal justice system to ensure cases withstand judicial scrutiny.
Similarly, the Deputy Head of the Legal Unit at the NSCDC Kwara State Command, DSC Kolo M. Mohammed, addressed the fundamental rights of suspects, stressing that the constitutional presumption of innocence mandates officers to avoid arbitrary treatment and adhere strictly to legal custody procedures.
The workshop equipped participating officers with technical knowledge spanning lawful arrest and detention protocols, evidence preservation, chain-of-custody maintenance, and constitutional safeguards in criminal justice administration.
