The Kwara State Fire Service has put out a fire at a plank and furniture workshop along Akerebiata, Sobi Road, Ilorin.

In a statement, the Service Public Relations Officer, Hassan Adekunle, said the service received a distress call reporting the fire outbreak at the workshop.

Upon arrival, the firefighters discovered that the entire workshop was engulfed in flames. Security personnel at a nearby building had noticed the fire and alerted the service.

It noted that despite the intensity of the fire and the extent to which it had spread before the personnel of the service arrival, the firefighters immediately commenced firefighting operations and successfully brought the situation under control.

The statement explained that although the workshop was completely affected by the fire, the firefighters prevented the fire from spreading to the adjoining building, thereby averting further damage to neighbouring property.

The Kwara State Chief Fire Officer, Alabi Muhammed, has urged furniture makers, carpenters and other business owners who work with combustible materials to prioritise fire safety.

He advised them to maintain safe electrical installations, arrange combustible materials responsibly and provide appropriate fire extinguishers in their workshops.
