Iliasu Suleiman has approached the Federal High Court in Ilorin to challenge the alleged substitution of his name with that of Jiya Kollo as the Peoples Democratic Party's candidate for Kwara North Senatorial District in the 2027 general election.

According to court documents, the suit, marked FHC/IL/CS/136/2026, lists the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), the PDP and Jiya Kollo as respondents.

Suleiman claims he won the party's primary election held on May 20, 2026, and that INEC published his name as the PDP candidate on August 1, 2026. He is contesting the subsequent publication of Kollo's name on September 12, 2026, as his replacement.

The central issue in his case is whether the party could lawfully substitute him when, according to him, he had not withdrawn his candidature.

Citing Sections 29, 31, 32 and 33 of the Electoral Act, 2026, Suleiman is asking the court to declare the substitution unlawful and recognise him as the validly nominated PDP candidate for the district.

He also seeks an order directing INEC to continue recognising him as the party's candidate and restraining the commission, its officials and agents from recognising Kollo.

The suit was filed on his behalf by Alajo & Associates, Ilorin.
