Nigerian Army Inspects Sites for New Battalion Base in Omu-Aran
Senior officers of the Nigerian Army have visited Omu-Aran in Irepodun Local Government Area of Kwara State to inspect proposed locations for a permanent battalion base and a temporary operational camp following President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's approval for the establishment of a new military battalion in the town.
The inspection marks a major step towards implementing the Federal Government's plan to strengthen security infrastructure in Kwara State.
When operational, the battalion is expected to enhance the Nigerian Army's capacity to combat banditry, kidnapping and other violent crimes across Kwara State and neighbouring communities.
The delegation was received by the Executive Chairman of Irepodun Local Government Area, AbdulAzeez Yakub, who accompanied the senior military officers during the inspection of the proposed sites.
Discussions centred on the suitability of the locations, available infrastructure and the logistical requirements needed for the commencement of operations.
The visit follows the recent confirmation by the Kwara State Government that a new Army battalion would be established in Omu-Aran, representing the first major practical step towards activating the military formation.
Beyond strengthening security, the battalion is also expected to stimulate socio-economic development in Omu-Aran through increased government presence, improved infrastructure and economic activities associated with the military installation.
