Kwara Fire Service Holds Safety Sensitisation Exercise at College of Arabic and Islamic College
The Kwara State College of Arabic and Islamic Legal Studies (KWARACAILS), Ilorin, on Tuesday, 9th June 2026, hosted a Fire and Flood Safety Sensitisation Exercise organised by the Kwara State Fire Service under the Ministry of Works and Transport.
The programme, held at the College Lecture Hall, forms part of the Kwara State Government's proactive efforts towards disaster prevention, emergency preparedness, and the protection of lives and property across the state.
Declaring the programme open on behalf of the Provost, the Registrar of the College emphasised the importance of safety awareness and commended the Kwara State Fire Service for bringing the sensitisation exercise to the institution. He urged staff members to pay close attention to the training and apply the knowledge gained in their daily activities.
The Fire Service team was led by Mallam Issa Adekunle Sikiru, who delivered a comprehensive presentation on fire and flood safety. During the session, he highlighted the economic importance of fire when properly controlled and explained that fire disasters are often caused by the combination of oxygen, fuel, and heat.
The team also educated participants on various safety measures and precautionary steps to adopt during fire outbreaks and flood emergencies. Staff members were advised not to panic during emergencies, to immediately raise an alarm in the event of danger, while noting that false alarms are punishable offences. Participants were further cautioned against wearing slippers during periods of heavy rainfall and in fire emergency situations and were advised to evacuate affected premises immediately whenever necessary.
As part of efforts to strengthen emergency response, the team provided the official emergency contact numbers of the Kwara State Fire Service: 08030419316 and 08025896740, urging members of the public to make use of the lines whenever emergency situations arise.
The sensitisation exercise featured an interactive question-and-answer session during which participants sought clarification on various fire and flood-related issues. The programme also included practical demonstrations of fire safety techniques and emergency response procedures, giving attendees firsthand experience of the lessons taught.
Staff members expressed appreciation to the Kwara State Fire Service for the enlightening programme, describing it as timely and informative in view of the increasing need for disaster preparedness and safety consciousness.
The event concluded with a renewed commitment by participants to promote safety practices within the College community and beyond.
