Date: 2026-05-20

A governorship aspirant under the All Progressives Congress (APC), Abubakar Olanrewaju Sulaiman, has announced his withdrawal from the 2027 governorship race in Kwara State ahead of the party primaries.

Sulaiman disclosed this in a statement addressed to the people of the state, where he said the decision followed extensive consultations and recent political developments.

According to him, his initial decision to seek the governorship position was inspired by a desire to contribute to the progress, unity and development of Kwara State.

He said he remained humbled by the support, prayers and goodwill shown to him by people across Kwara North, Kwara South and Kwara Central senatorial districts.

"After extensive consultations and recent developments, I have decided to withdraw from the gubernatorial race ahead of the forthcoming party primaries," he stated.

Sulaiman explained that the decision was taken in the interest of wisdom, responsibility and commitment to the greater good.

While stepping aside from the contest, he reaffirmed his loyalty to the APC and expressed continued support for the leadership of Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

"As a loyal party member and stakeholder, I remain committed to the success of the APC in the upcoming elections at all levels," he added.

He also appreciated his supporters, friends and well-wishers for their encouragement throughout his political journey, noting that their goodwill would never be forgotten.

Sulaiman maintained that although he was no longer participating in the race, his commitment to the peace, unity and development of Kwara State remained unwavering.
