The All Progressives Congress (APC), Kwara State chapter, has conducted primary elections to select candidates for the House of Representatives from the state.

The election was held as a direct primary in accordance with guidelines issued by the National Secretariat of the party.

Conducted across various political wards in the three senatorial districts of the state Kwara Central, Kwara North and Kwara South the primary election was generally peaceful and devoid of rancour.

In an interview, the Deputy National Publicity Secretary and North Central Coordinator for the Elections, Mr Durosinmi Meseko, described the election as peaceful and in line with the party's expectations.

"We have gone round the town and we have seen elections going on in various wards and local governments peacefully," he said.

Meseko attributed the peaceful conduct of the elections to the leadership of the party.

"We are satisfied with the process so far and we believe it will produce credible candidates for the party," he said.

In another interview, the Chairman of the House of Representatives Primary Election Committee in Kwara, Habib Salam, expressed satisfaction with the conduct of the exercise.

Salam said the process was free, fair and transparent, stating that it would ensure the emergence of credible candidates.

He urged aspirants to embrace sportsmanship and remain united irrespective of the outcome of the elections.

The State Governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, witnessed the conduct of the primary elections at his Adewole ward, where party supporters gathered in their hundreds for the affirmation of the candidates of their choice.

Addressing supporters, Governor AbdulRazaq said the party has built a responsible government which has enhanced the development of the state.

"APC has built a responsible government in the state. We have brought development to the state. You can see in this facility, there is no dilapidated structure, you can see our infrastructure across the state.

"We have built new schools. In terms of human capital development, APC has delivered. In terms of infrastructure, APC has delivered. In terms of healthcare, APC has delivered. That is why people want us to continue to deliver the goodies for Kwarans," the Governor said.
