Kwara Farmers Receive Agricultural Support Under MOK Foundation Initiative
Farmers across Kwara State have received farm inputs aimed at boosting food production and strengthening agricultural activities as part of an ongoing intervention by the Muhydeen Okunlola Kayode Foundation.
The foundation said the initiative, under its "Feed Kwara, Grow Kwara" programme, is designed to support farmers with essential inputs and improve productivity across communities in the state.
In a statement issued by its spokesperson, Nurudeen Muhammad, and obtained by Arewa PUNCH on Thursday, the organisation said the intervention has reached farmers across the 16 local government areas since its launch in 2023.
According to the statement, beneficiaries were provided with fertilisers, herbicides, improved seeds, sprayers, and other agricultural tools to enhance crop yields and support sustainable farming.
The foundation noted that communities in Kwara South, including Offa, Oyun, Irepodun, Isin, and Oke-Ero local government areas, have recorded significant participation in the programme, with hundreds of farmers benefiting from the distribution exercise.
It added that farmers in towns such as Ajase-Ipo, Omu-Aran, Erin-Ile, Igosun, Ilemona, and Oke-Onigbin were among those supported through structured distribution channels.
"Our agricultural support initiative is driven by a simple principle: if you are a Kwaran who farms, you qualify. We do not discriminate based on ethnicity, religion, or political affiliation because hunger does not discriminate," the statement read.
The Foundation, however, dismissed allegations of political bias and insensitivity in its agricultural support programme in Kwara State, insisting that its interventions are non-discriminatory and focused solely on boosting food production.
Reacting to claims by a group Kwara South Development Forum, which alleged that a recent farm input distribution exercise was politically motivated and failed to consider prevailing security concerns in parts of the region, the statement said it "condemns in the strongest terms" the wave of insecurity in Kwara communities, including kidnappings and killings, while expressing solidarity with victims and families affected by the crisis.
However, it described attempts to link its intervention to criminality as "false and dangerous," warning that such claims could undermine efforts to rebuild affected communities.
"Our agricultural support initiative is driven by a simple principle: if you are a Kwaran who farms, you qualify. We do not discriminate based on ethnicity, religion, or political affiliation because hunger does not discriminate," the statement noted.
Providing context, the foundation further clarified that its "Feed Kwara, Grow Kwara" initiative, launched in 2023, has reached farmers across the state's 16 local government areas, with a focus on improving access to farm inputs and strengthening food security.
It listed several Yoruba-majority communities in Kwara South that have benefited from the programme to include: Offa, Oyun, Irepodun, Isin, and Oke-Ero local government areas, where farmers received items such as fertilisers, herbicides, improved seeds, sprayers, and irrigation equipment between 2023 and 2025.
According to Muhammed, "hundreds of farmers" in communities such as Ajase-Ipo, Omu-Aran, Erin-Ile, Igosun, Ilemona, and Oke-Onigbin have also been supported over the years through structured and verifiable distribution processes.
On the recent distribution carried out in April 2026, it stated that "farmers from various communities, including long-settled groups engaged in farming, were included to ensure inclusive access to support.
"To be clear, the MOK Foundation does not fund criminality. We are not a law enforcement agency. Our responsibility is to support verified farmers. If any beneficiary is later found to be involved in crime, it is for security agencies to investigate and act," the statement insisted.
The foundation also disclosed plans to expand the distribution to more communities in Kwara South ahead of the rainy season, in line with its phased implementation strategy.
While acknowledging security challenges affecting farming activities in parts of the state, the organisation spokesman said it has complemented its agricultural support with community-based interventions, including assistance to local vigilante groups and the provision of solar lighting infrastructure.
"Security and economic empowerment must go hand in hand. You cannot separate food production from the safety of those who produce it," it said.
Thus, the foundation urged stakeholders to support initiatives that promote agricultural development and food security, reiterating its commitment to empowering farmers across communities in the state.
It also invited members of the public and the media to verify its activities, noting that records of beneficiaries and distribution processes are available for inspection at its office in Offa.
