The Kwara State Government has launched a statewide vaccination campaign against transboundary animal diseases across the 16 local government areas of the state.

The exercise, which commenced in Ilorin West Local Government Area, is designed to strengthen animal health services and improve livestock productivity.

The Commissioner for Livestock Development, Mrs. Oloruntoyosi Thomas, represented at the event by the Director of Veterinary Services, Dr. Abdullateef Olugbon, said the initiative would boost productivity, safeguard pastoral and farming livelihoods, and contribute to national food security.

She commended the Federal Government and the Livestock Productivity and Resilience Support (L-PRES) Project for supporting the state's efforts to combat major transboundary animal diseases, reaffirming the government's commitment to sustaining the intervention.

Mrs. Thomas also urged livestock farmers to register with the Ministry of Livestock Development to benefit from the vaccination programme and other government initiatives.

In his remarks, the State Project Coordinator, Olusoji Oyawoye, represented by the Project Animal Health Officer, Dr. Bukola Richards, said the vaccination campaign would help prevent disease outbreaks, reduce livestock morbidity, and enhance overall productivity.

He noted that the Federal Ministry of Livestock Development, through the L-PRES project, recently supplied vaccines to states as part of broader efforts to strengthen animal health services nationwide.
