Kwara Philanthropist, Engr. Femi Sanni Nominated for Social Impact Investor of the Year
Kwara-born social impact investor and philanthropist, Engr. Femi Sanni, has been nominated for the Social Impact Investor of the Year at the 2025 Independent Awards.
The nomination was announced by Independent Newspapers Limited as part of activities marking the Silver Jubilee edition of its annual awards, which celebrate outstanding contributions across the public and private sectors.
In a statement made available to Arewa PUNCH on Monday, the organisers said the category recognises individuals whose private resources and initiatives have delivered measurable public good within the year under review, often with minimal media attention.
According to the organisers, Sanni's nomination reflects his sustained grassroots interventions in education, community development, and humanitarian support, particularly in underserved communities across Kwara State and parts of northern Nigeria.
Sanni, who is also the owner of Flow FM, a private radio station based in Ilorin, has over the years supported initiatives focused on youth empowerment, access to education, and community welfare.
The organisers disclosed that the nominations followed weeks of nationwide submissions and a rigorous internal review by the newspaper's Board of Editors.
Also shortlisted for the 2025 honours is Tony Elumelu, founder of Heirs Holdings, who made the Business Leader of the Year shortlist.
In the public sector category, governors including Alex Otti, Peter Mbah, Uba Sani, and Sheriff Oborevwori were nominated across multiple categories.
Editors described the nominees as individuals whose leadership and initiatives demonstrated "exceptional performance and people-focused governance" amid prevailing economic and social challenges.
Observers note that Sanni's nomination highlights the growing role of private citizens in complementing government efforts in nation-building, especially as communities across northern Nigeria grapple with poverty, unemployment, and insecurity.
Public voting for the awards opens on February 16, 2026, while winners across 25 categories will be announced at the Silver Jubilee ceremony scheduled for April 18, 2026, at Eko Hotel and Suites, Lagos.
