Kwara Govt Pledges Support as FGN Power Company Engages Stakeholders on Power Initiative
The FGN Power Company, operating under the Presidential Power Initiative, has sought collaboration with the Kwara State Government to improve power supply across the state.
The disclosure was made on Thursday during a stakeholders' meeting involving officials of the Ministry of Energy, representatives of the FGN Power Company and the Transmission Company of Nigeria. The meeting was held at the conference room of the Ministry of Energy in Ilorin, the Kwara State capital.
In a statement issued by the Press Secretary of the Ministry of Energy, Rukayat Abdulhameed, the Commissioner for Energy, represented at the meeting by the Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Mr Olaitan Afolabi, assured the initiative of the full support of the Kwara State Government.
Afolabi described the project as "a laudable Federal Government initiative" and noted that the state government was working tirelessly to improve the economic, social and infrastructural development of the state.
He said, "The Governor of Kwara State, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, through the Ministry of Energy, had commenced the installation of 34 transformers across the state, demonstrating his administration's commitment to the welfare of the people."
According to him, "power supply is critical to development," adding that the state government is taking all necessary steps to enhance social, economic and infrastructural growth.
He further assured that the state would fully support the initiative, describing it as beneficial to the people of Kwara State and capable of attracting investors to the state.
Speaking at the meeting, the Coordinator, Distribution Lines and Injection Sub-station, and Technical Lead of the FGN Power Company team, Oladunjoye Olubukola, said the Offa Sub-station was one of the Phase One projects under the Presidential Power Initiative.
Also speaking, the Coordinator, Environmental, Social and Governance, FGN Power Company, Dr Robert Eze, said the initiative was aimed at bridging Nigeria's energy gap with a clear mandate to increase power supply nationwide.
He noted that the PPI was investing in comprehensive solutions designed to provide Nigerian consumers with dependable and additional electricity.
According to him, the expected impact of the project includes the energisation of more feeders, enhanced commercial, industrial and residential activities, and increased attraction of investors to Kwara State.
In her remarks, the Assistant General Manager, Transmission, Oshogbo Sub-region, Chizoba Ezeoke, said the initiative "would benefit the people of Offa and its environs by creating employment opportunities and improving access to sufficient and reliable power supply."
She added that it would boost small businesses and ensure a more stable electricity supply.
Also present at the meeting were the Director of Personnel, Finance and Supply, Mallam Yakuba Adam; Director of Electrical Engineering, Engr. Fisayo Dada; Assistant Manager, Environmental, Social and Governance, FGN Power Company, Mr Segun Adedeji; Communication Analyst, FGN Power Company, Mr Daniel Omatseyin, among others.
