Edu APC Stakeholders Back House Of Assembly Over Hon. Yisa Gideon's Suspension
Stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Edu Local Government Area have formally declared their support for the Kwara State House of Assembly regarding the three-month suspension of Hon. Yisa Gideon.
The lawmaker was recently ordered by the House to proceed on suspension following allegations that he recorded private proceedings of the Assembly without proper authorisation.
The endorsement of the House's action came during an APC e-membership registration sensitisation programme held in Tsaragi. High-profile attendees included the Commissioner for Social Development, Dr. Mariam Imam; the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Livestock Development, Alh. Yahaya Mohammed; APC leader in Tsaragi Ward, Mr. Paul Zhirin; and youth leader, Baba Fati.
During the event, the stakeholders strongly condemned attempts by the suspended lawmaker and his supporters to sway public opinion through what they termed a "fictitious" signature collection. They alleged that the list of people purportedly expressing support for Gideon contained names of individuals who are no longer alive.
Specifically, the leaders cited the late Vice Chairman and the late Public Relations Officer of the APC in Tsaragi Ward as examples of deceased persons whose signatures were allegedly forged on the document.
The stakeholders urged the public not to be misled by these tactics, maintaining that the suspension was a necessary disciplinary measure to uphold the integrity of the State House of Assembly.
A prominent youth leader, Baba Fati, said that Edu local government was not in support of Gideon's conduct that led to his suspension by the House of Assembly.
The permanent secretary in the Ministry of Livestock, Alh. Yahaya Mohammed, said no individual was bigger than the APC and that anyone who failed to align with the party's decisions would be replaced through congress.
For his part, Hon. Saddiq Buhari dismissed the alleged endorsement document, saying many ward chairmen and executives neither saw nor signed it.
"This document is fake. We are not part of it, and we support every disciplinary action taken against Hon. Gideon for his alleged misconduct," he said.
The Commissioner for Social Development, Dr Mariam Imam, described the incident as "politics of filthiness" and called on the APC to discipline anyone found guilty.
