Omolewa Ahmed Organizes Lenten Lecture
Women have been enjoined to rise up to their role as nation builders, particularly at this Lenten period by imbibing the spirit of repentance and interceding for their families, churches and the country through praying and fasting because God will not allow injustice to go without punishment.
The Chairperson, Women wing of Christian Association of Nigeria (WOMICAN) Kwara State Chapter, Prophetess Bosede Adimaba, made this call yesterday, during the maiden Lenten programme organized by the wife of the State Governor, Mrs. Omolewa Ahmed, at the Government House, Ilorin, the state capital.
While commending Mrs. Ahmed for her charitable services especially in caring for the needy, helping the less priviledtged and providing medical facilities to the sick, Adimabua said that "repentance means having a Godly sorrow over a particular action by turning from evil ways to the way of God."
According to her "repentance is a process towards salvation because one cannot claim to be born again without genuinely repenting from their old ways, saying that God will not forsake the one who repents genuinely and will always hear their prayers as believers."
Also speaking on the occasion, a consultant gynecologist, Dr. Adebunmi Olarinoye, charged women to make regular checkup and routine scan a serious part of their overall health and to checkmate cancer diseases.
According to her, cervical cancer which is cancer of the mouth of the womb has been identified after breast cancer.
She also said that cervical cancer is a preventable disease which has almost been completely eradicated in developed countries.
She therefore implored women to always go for screening especially if a woman is sexually active, is at least 21 years while avoiding smoking, multiple sex partners and promiscuous behavioural pattern.
Speaking on ovarian cancer, Olarinoye explained that the disease has no known cause but that family history may have a role to play.
She identified some signs of ovarian cancer to include feeling of bloodedness, pain the belly or pelvic, fatigue, indigestion, pain with sexual intercourse and constipation saying that there are, however, no reliable screening tests to check for the presence of the disease.
The Lenten lecture will be a weekly programme throughout the Lenten period.
