Kwara North Power Shift Agenda Gains Momentum as Ibolo Bloc Throws Support
The agitation for power rotation to Kwara North Senatorial District ahead of the 2027 governorship election has gained significant new momentum, as the Ibolo bloc of Kwara South Senatorial District has officially thrown its weight behind the agenda. The Ibolo bloc comprises Offa and Oyun Local Government Areas.
The endorsement came on Wednesday during a consultative town hall meeting organized by the Kwara North Youth Consultative Forum (KNYCF) at the Offa Descendants Union Town Hall in Offa, Kwara State.
This development follows a similar declaration by the Ekiti bloc of Kwara South, made up of Ekiti and Oke-Ero LGAs, which earlier resolved to support the call for power shift to Kwara North in 2027.
Arewa PUNCH reports that the meeting, which drew traditional rulers, women leaders, youth groups, and political figures from across the Ibolo axis, was part of KNYCF's statewide consultations to rally support for what the group described as "a just and equitable power balance" in the state.
KNYCF Chairperson, Dr. Abduldayan Aisha Haruna, commended the Ibolo people for their solidarity and sense of fairness, saying the group's call for power shift was rooted in justice and inclusion.
"Our demand is simple and sincere. Kwara North has stood with others over the years. Now, it is our turn to be supported. This is about fairness, inclusion, and unity," she said.
The forum's Publicity Secretary, Hon. Nura Muhammed, speaking with Arewa PUNCH, decried what he called the "political imbalance" in the state, noting that while Kwara Central has produced governors for over two decades and Kwara South for eight years, Kwara North has yet to occupy the state's top seat since the return of democracy in 1999.
"The Ibolo people are known for standing by the truth, and we believe they will once again be on the side of justice," he added.
The gathering also had in attendance the Speaker of the Offa Local Government Legislative Council, Hon. Tayo Olanrewaju, and former Accord Party chairmanship candidate, Mallam Aliyu Ibrahim, both of whom pledged support for the Kwara North governorship project.
In a symbolic royal endorsement, the Onipe of Ipe Land, Oba Muftau Adebayo Lawal Titiloye III, described the demand for power shift as "long overdue," noting that the state can only achieve stability through fairness in leadership rotation.
"Equity builds peace and unity. This call by Kwara North is legitimate and deserves genuine attention from all parts of the state," the monarch said.
However, he praised Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq for promoting inclusiveness and balanced representation in governance, urging him to continue fostering unity across the three senatorial zones.
Not a few observers described the KNYCF's visit to Offa and Ipe as a major milestone in the emerging political alliance between Kwara North and parts of Kwara South, a move seen as strengthening calls for justice, equity, and youth inclusion ahead of the 2027 polls.
