Kwara Govt Warns Residents Against Burning Waste Materials

Date: 2013-02-15

Kwara State government has warned residents of the state to stop burning waste materials to ensure the success of the state government’s "Waste to Wealth" programme.

The Commissioner for Environment and Forestry, Mr Kayode Towoju, made the call in a statement signed by the Press Secretary, Mrs. Fatimoh Amuda.

Towoju criticised the negative attitude of some residents who constantly pour hot charcoal into roadside-bins, thereby destroying the waste materials and damaging most of the roadside bins in Ilorin, the state capital.

He also stressed the need for communal efforts to ensure cleanliness in the state and called on residents to be committed to cleaning of their drains and surroundings.

The commissioner  disclosed that the state government had directed an indigenous contractor, Ola-Iya Metal to manufacture more roadside bins.

He gave an assurance that the government would find a lasting solution to the indiscriminate dumping of refuse in uncompleted buildings in the state.
