Two Brothers Abducted on Cassava Farm in Edu
Gunmen have abducted two brothers from their cassava farm in Bokungi Zambufu community, Edu Local Government Area of Kwara State.
The attack occurred on Wednesday when four heavily armed assailants stormed the farm, firing shots into the air before seizing the siblings and fleeing into nearby forests.
A local vigilante commander, Gina Gana, confirmed the incident on Wednesday night, revealing that no ransom demand had been made as of press time. He added that military operatives were later seen with two suspects in the area, though it remains unclear if they are connected to the abduction.
This latest incident underscores the growing insecurity in the region, particularly along the volatile Kwara-Kogi border where criminal networks have exploited forested corridors for kidnapping and banditry.
In response, the Kwara State Government has issued a renewed advisory urging residents especially in Ekiti, Ifelodun, Isin, Oke-Ero, and Irepodun LGAs to remain vigilant and limit outdoor activities.
The warning follows intensified security operations targeting kidnappers' hideouts, during which several suspects have been arrested and camps destroyed.
"The kidnappers are fleeing their hideouts and we don't want law-abiding citizens to be affected," Commissioner for Communications, Bolanle Olukoju, said in a statement.
She said the government regrets any inconveniences the restrictions may cause but praised security forces for their renewed efforts to rout the criminals.
He urged them to continue until the gangs are neutralised and flushed out of the forests.
