Heavy Rain and Thunderstorm Warning: Kwara Government Issues Life-Saving Safety Directives
Kwara State Government has issued an urgent public advisory regarding severe weather conditions forecasted for Wednesday, 30 July 2025, based on Nigeria Meteorological Agency (NiMet) alerts.
Residents are warned of heavy rainfall, lightning, and thunderstorms expected across the state. Immediate action is required:
Riverside communities: All residents living near riverbanks or in riverine areas must relocate to higher ground without delay to avoid life-threatening floods.
General public: Minimise outdoor movement during storms. Unplug electrical appliances before leaving premises to prevent damage from power surges.
The government urges strict adherence to these precautions, stating: "Your safety is paramount. Proactive measures will safeguard lives and property during this weather event."
To prevent flooding and loss of lives and properties, the state government is currently dredging Asa river, while the Ministry of Environment has also embarked on the clearing of drainages within the metropolis.
The Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq administration continues to prioritise the well-being and comfort of the people of the state.
We urge residents of the state to complement the government's efforts at taking Kwara State to greater heights.
