Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq CON has hailed Halimatu Ayinde OON, the Kwara-born Super Falcons midfielder, for her pivotal role in Nigeria's historic victory at the 2024 Women's Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco.
Governor AbdulRazaq praised Ayinde a key defensive midfielder for Swedish club FC Rosengard for her outstanding contributions during the tournament, particularly in Nigeria's 1-0 triumph over hosts Morocco at Rabat Stadium on 26 July 2025. This victory marked Nigeria's eighth WAFCON title and first in 16 years.
The Governor met with Ayinde and the Super Falcons delegation following their official reception by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the State House, Abuja, on 28 July 2025. In his remarks, he stated: "We take immense pride in Halimatu's excellence. Her dedication embodies Kwara's spirit and inspires our youth to pursue greatness."
The Governor's commendation underscores Kwara State's commitment to nurturing sporting talent, aligning with his administration's support for women's football after Kwara United's recent President's Federation Cup win.
During their brief interaction, the Chairman of the Nigeria Governors' Forum (NGF), Mallam AbdulRazaq, expressed pride in Ayinde's accomplishments and praised her as a shining example of excellence, resilience, and discipline on the global stage.
"We're proud of you, Halimatu. You've made Kwara and Nigeria proud with your performance, and you remain an inspiration to young athletes back home," Governor AbdulRazaq said.
In response, Ayinde thanked Governor AbdulRazaq for his kind words and encouragement, reaffirming her commitment to continue being a positive role model for young talents and to represent Kwara State and Nigeria with pride.
