22 Armoured Brigade Arrests Eight Kidnappers, Rescues Victims in Patigi Operation
Troops from the 22 Armoured Brigade, stationed at the Forward Operating Base in Patigi, Kwara State, have arrested eight suspected kidnappers and rescued two victims during a coordinated operation on Saturday. The military also recovered two motorcycles and two spent cartridges linked to the suspects, believed to be part of a kidnapping syndicate active in the region.
A statement released on Sunday by Lt. Stephen Nwankwo, Acting Assistant Director of Army Public Relations for the 22 Brigade, revealed the operation was conducted following credible intelligence. The troops targeted a suspected hideout on the outskirts of Latandaji Village in Patigi Local Government Area (LGA), disrupting criminal activities in the area.
The military highlighted the arrests as part of ongoing efforts to combat insecurity and protect civilians in northern Nigeria. Lt. Nwankwo stated: "This tactical intervention underscores our commitment to neutralising criminal networks and ensuring community safety."
Lt. Nwankwo added that the suspects initially put up mild resistance but were swiftly overpowered.
"During the engagement, troops encountered mild resistance but swiftly subdued the criminals with superior firepower.
"The operation led to the rescue of two kidnap victims, identified as Mr. Amos Moses and Mr. Philip Michael, and the arrest of eight suspected kidnappers," he said.
He further disclosed that one individual, identified as Mr. Mohammed Mohammed sustained gunshot wounds during the exchange and has been evacuated to Bachita Teaching Hospital for treatment.
"Further exploitation of the area led to the recovery of two motorcycles and two expended cartridge shells, believed to be used by the suspects.
"All arrested individuals are currently in military custody for preliminary investigation and will be handed over to relevant authorities for prosecution," Lt. Nwankwo added.
The military assured residents of continued efforts to rid the area of criminal elements and restore lasting peace.
