NGF Condemns Mokwa Flood Devastation, Offers Solidarity to Niger State
The Nigeria Governors' Forum (NGF) has expressed shock over the devastating floods that destroyed lives and property in Mokwa town, Niger State, and has extended its sympathy to the affected community and the Niger State Government.
In a statement signed by NGF Chairman and Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, the forum stated: "We stand in solidarity with the government and people of Niger State over the flood that caused significant destruction in Mokwa. The governors are deeply shocked by the scale of the disaster and commiserate with affected families."
Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq also praised the Niger State Government's coordination with emergency responders to assist flood victims, adding: "We commend their efforts in this difficult time and reaffirm the NGF's support to mitigate the crisis."
"This flood again reminds us of the stark realities of climate change and the accompanying effects on how we live. We commit ourselves as leaders of our people to continue to work with the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA) and the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) to not only help our people to cope with this global challenge, but to strengthen mitigative actions and relief institutions.
"We pray God to console families who have lost loved ones and properties in the Mokwa incident, and we urge citizens to support government's efforts to mitigate the impacts of climate change and to cooperate with agencies working to assist those in urgent need at this time," AbdulRazaq added.
