Fire Engulfs Ten Shops in Ilorin; Fire Service Saves Majority Amid Early Morning Response
The Kwara State Fire Service received a distress call at dawn on Tuesday, 29 April 2025, reporting a fire at a block of shops along F-Division Road in Tanke, Ilorin.
Firefighters responded swiftly and found ten shops engulfed in flames. Demonstrating exceptional professionalism, they contained the blaze before it spread to nearby properties. Six shops were salvaged, while four sustained damage.
Preliminary investigations suggest that the fire was caused by a power surge. According to the security guard on duty, he heard a loud noise from one of the shops, followed by smoke and then an eruption of flames, which rapidly spread to other shops in the block.
The Director of the Kwara State Fire Service, Prince Falade John, urges the general public to always remain vigilant and safety conscious to prevent such occurrences.
