Kwara Govt Cracks Down on Illegal Structures Blocking Water Pipelines
The Kwara State Government has warned residents against constructing buildings or structures on water pipelines, cautioning that such actions risk disrupting water supply across communities.
The State Commissioner for Water Resources, Usman Yunusa Lade, issued the alert during an inspection of a major pipeline repair project at Flower Garden in Ilorin.
Represented by the Ministry's Permanent Secretary, Mrs. Christiana Asonibare, the commissioner stressed that encroachments on water pipelines hinder efficient distribution and compromise supply to households.
“'Erection of structures like residential buildings, mosques, churches and shops on the water pipelines by the people is inimical to adequate water supply across the state”
He urged residents to support the government's efforts by considering the location of water pipelines before constructing any structures to prevent damage to pipes and ensure an uninterrupted water supply to communities.
Meanwhile, the project supervisor, Bamidele Idowu, confirmed the successful completion of the project. He stated that the repaired pipeline would undergo a test run to identify and rectify any potential issues before full water distribution resumes.
Idowu assured residents that areas such as Flower Garden, Lajorin, Offa Road, Sabo-Oke, Amilengbe, Adualere, Isale-Koko, Oja-Gboro, and Ipata, among others, will benefit from the repair as soon as water pumping begins.
