Professor Egbewole Vows to Place Unilorin Among Africa's Top 10 Universities
The Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ilorin (Unilorin) in Kwara State, Professor Wahab Olasupo Egbewole SAN, has reaffirmed his commitment to achieving his ambitious “1-10-500” vision for the institution. This goal aims to position Unilorin as first in Nigeria, among the top 10 in Africa, and within the world's best 500 universities by the end of his tenure in 2027.
The Senior Advocate of Nigeria made this declaration on Monday evening during an Iftar gathering with journalists and members of the university community at the Vice-Chancellor's Lodge.
“The University of Ilorin that you know is renowned for excellence, success and the best. Our mantra and vision 1-10- 500 is still ongoing and it is hope that it will be delivered at the end of our administration.” said the Vice Chancellor.
Egbewole also said that the university management has the capacity to accommodate every religion.
He said that,'as a community ,we have accomodation for every religion . Every religion is accommodated within our community and our university is unique in the sense that every Christmas we felicitate with our Christian brothers and sisters and felicitate with our Muslim umman during ileya. I'm not sure any other university in Nigeria does that.”
He assured that the university will continue to partner with the press and expressed hope that the Journalists will continue to partner with the institution.
“We'll continue to partner with the press and hope that they'll continue to partner with us,”he said.
'We believe that while we're meeting with the press, we should meet with the Muslim community, provost and deans, directors of various units and interact with them a cross-section of the University community.”he added.
He also noted that the essence of Ramadan is to ensure that the Muslims faith in almighty Allah remain resolute.
“That our concern for our neighbour's friends and communities remains resolute and of course, we share pains of hunger and we also relate and bond together as Muslims and that is why the University of Ilorin deems it fit that every Ramadan we come together,”he added.
The Deputy Chief Imam, Unilorin Central Mosque,Dr. Musa Siddiq Abdullahi in his sermon urged Muslim faithful to ensure that total abstainance from sins and recitements of Quran observed during Ramadan are sustained after the end of the fast.
He noted that these are the indicators that the prayers said during Ramadan would be answered.
“Going back to sinful life after Ramadan merely shows that such person went on hunger strike during the 29 or 30 days fasting, and it isn't worth it.” he said.
