New Executive Council Inaugurated for NUJ Radio Kwara Chapel
A new executive council to run the affairs of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Kwara State Broadcasting Corporation (Radio Kwara) chapel for the next three years has been inaugurated.
The new executives, led by Chairman Comrade Abdulrosheed Okiki, emerged unopposed at an election held at the newsroom of the corporation. Comrade John Adewoye was elected as Vice Chairman, and Hawa Alimi as Secretary.
Others are Olabode Ahmed (Assistant Secretary), Aminat Adediji Soladoye (Financial Secretary), Aminat Tijani (Treasurer) and Abdulwahab Olasile Akanji (Auditor).
Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, the state NUJ chairman, Comrade Abduleteef Lanre Ahmed, stressed the need for members to be cognizant of the NUJ Constitution and vowed to continue to prioritize the welfare of members.
Comrade Ahmed congratulated the the new executives of the Radio Kwara chapel and thanked members for their solidarity and support given to the Council.
Also, the General Manager of the Corporation, Alhaji Tajudeen Kayode Aremu, stressed the need for journalists to be more professional in the performance of their jobs and avoid sensational reporting.
The General Manager commended the Chairman of the NUJ Comrade Ahmed for his leadership style, stressing the need to unite and work closely for the progress and development of the council and its members.
Alhaji Aremu advocated the need for training and retraining of NUJ members to guarantee efficiency and enhance productivity.
The Chairman of the Credentials Committee, Mr. Bunmi Adedoyin expressed gratitude to God Almighty for the smooth process before, during, and after the election and thanked members of the chapel for the support given to the credentials committee.
In his acceptance speech, the newly Elected Chairman, Comrade Abdulrosheed Okiki appealed to all members of the union to come together to promote oneness, and understanding and work selflessly for the progress and development of the NUJ.
“I also want to inform the house and seek the support of everyone for the three-point agenda of this new leadership.
“These are: improved welfare of members, capacity building, and collaboration with relevant stakeholders to achieve set goals.”
Comrade Okiki promised that the team would leverage the reputation of Radio Kwara and individual members' networks to attract support to the chapel.
