Tinubu Approves Appointment of Professor Abikan as NIALS Director General

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the appointment of Professor Abdulkadir Abikan, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) and Lecturer in the Department of Islamic Law at the University of Ilorin, as reported by Voice of Nigeria.

The appointment is contained in a letter from the office of the Solicitor General of the Federation, Mrs. Beatrice Jedy-Agba, in Abuja.

The appointment takes effect from 24th November 2024, in accordance with sections 8 (1) and (2) of the Nigerian Institute of Advanced Legal Studies Act of 1984. Professor Abikan's appointment has been welcomed by the Emir of Ilorin and Chairman of Kwara State Traditional Rulers Council, Alhaji Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari, who expressed his excitement over the development.

In a goodwill message issued by his spokesman, Mallam Abdulazeez Arowona, the Emir rejoiced with Abikan, over the appointment.

As the new Director-General and Council Member of the Nigerian Institute of Advanced Legal, Alhaji Sulu-Gambari said, “I have the confidence that Professor Abdulquadir Abikan will bring his wealth of experience to improve and drive NIALS to the nation's legal advancement.”

While urging Professor Abikan to uphold professionalism, integrity, and national unity in the discharge of his assignment, Alhaji Sulu-Gambari thanked President Bola Tinubu for considering an indigene of the Ilorin Emirate for the appointment.

He therefore prayed that Almighty Allah guide the new Director-General of NIALS in his general conduct to the advancement of his mandates and benefit of the nation as well as humanity in general.
