Pakata Residents Appeal to Kwara Governor to Restrict Tanker Traffic on Residential Roads
According to Daily Trust, residents of Pakata, located in the Ilorin West Local Government Area of Kwara State, have called on Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq to take swift action to stop tanker drivers from using the Adeta-Pakata-Alore-Oloje road, which passes through densely populated residential areas.
The appeal, led by the President of Pakata Patriots, Mallam Shehu Aliyu, comes after tanker drivers began diverting to this route following restrictions on articulated lorries using the newly constructed Alfa Yahaya Road. Aliyu highlighted the concern of residents, who fear the heavy vehicles pose risks to both safety and infrastructure in the community.
He said the tankers, often carrying petrol, now use the Adeta-Pakata-Alore-Oloje route to connect Oko-Olowo or Geri Alimi, creating a serious safety hazard for the residents.
“The activities of these drivers are posing a significant danger to the lives of those living along the road and other road users,” Mallam Aliyu warned.
He expressed concern over the high risk of fire accidents from petrol-laden vehicles, which has instilled fear in the community.
The community leader appealed to the governor to swiftly direct relevant authorities to provide alternative routes for the highly inflammable vehicles.
On his part, the community's public relations officer, Alhaji Abdullahi Mohammed Orekan, stressed the urgency of the matter, calling for immediate intervention to avert disaster.
